Four stars for the finished art, one star for the experience of getting there. The process of this was more than a little frustrating. As I wasnt able to communicate directly with the artist there were several requests lost in translation which I ended up with me having an artist friend fix the errors. Errors ranged from little things like no lipstick in the lipstick tube, an unfinished belt and a painted over buckle, to big things like purse sitting on the dogs shoulder, and when adjusted, painted over the dogs face with no depth. The artist went directly from photos but failed to capture the look of the original painting because, of course, the photos were not taken to look like the painting. I ended up having to send at least ten different images in five or so emails to get a look which still did not match the paintings connection between dog and girl but at least didnt make the subject (my sister) look like she was scowling out if the frame. While the original photos I sent showed her smiling and excited, the painting is of course profile. Despite sending profile pictures next and directing the artist to instagram if they needed more or better reference, the painting was presented with a three quarter profile glaring out of frame. This was a struggle to fix despite so many happier images being forwarded and I ended up giving up because I did not feel like any amount of further communication would help more than taking the painting to my friend. May you have better luck, these have the potential to be good if youve got just the right photo and an artist who pays better attention to their own work.
